چکیده

A number of recent scientific and engineering problems require signals to be decomposed into a product of a slowly varying positive envelope and a quickly varying carrier whose instantaneous frequency also varies slowly over time. Although signal processing provides algorithms for so-called amplitudeand frequencydemodulation (AFD), there are well known problems with all of the existing methods. Motivated by the fact that AFD is ill-posed, we approach the problem using probabilistic inference. The new approach, called probabilistic amplitude and frequency demodulation (PAFD), models instantaneous frequency using an auto-regressive generalization of the von Mises distribution, and the envelopes using Gaussian auto-regressive dynamics with a positivity constraint. A novel form of expectation propagation is used for inference. We demonstrate that although PAFD is computationally demanding, it outperforms previous approaches on synthetic and real signals in clean, noisy and missing data settings.

Probabilistic Amplitude Demodulation Features in Speech Synthesis for Improving Prosody

Amplitude demodulation (AM) is a signal decomposition technique by which a signal can be decomposed to a product of two signals, i.e, a quickly varying carrier and a slowly varying modulator. In this work, the probabilistic amplitude demodulation (PAD) features are used to improve prosody in speech synthesis. The PAD is applied iteratively for generating syllable and stress amplitude modulation...

Probabilistic Amplitude Demodulation

Natural sounds are rich in long-range temporal structure – like the sentences and phonemes of speech – and a good model of such structures should help solve difficult problems in machine-audition. We propose a new representation for the long-range features in sounds in terms of a product modulatory processes, that form a cascade from slow to fast. In order to produce this representation we argu...

Amplitude Modulation and Demodulation of Chaotic Signals

In this paper the notion of amplitude modulation of chaotic signals is introduced, similar to amplitude modulation of harmonic signal. Necessary conditions for modulation and demodulation of chaotic carrier are discussed. In particular, the type of chaotic carrier is discussed from the point of view of optimal demodulation. Demodulation accuracy estimates are also presented. Index terms – Chaot...
